Music Therapy & Wellness

Why music for wellness?

• Music is a non-invasive & motivating stimulus.
• Many people already have a strong, preexisting
   relationship
with music.

• More often than not, we associate music to mood.
The simple act of listening to music, if done with
intention, can have a huge impact on one's mindset
and well-being. The act of making music can have
   an even larger impact.

• When we express ourselves musically either alone,
or with another person, a sense of belonging is
established as well as opportunities for self
   expression
and a release of endorphins.

      EMOTIONAL                      WELLNESS

Most people have deep emotional ties and memories to songs they have heard throughout their lives, making it a powerful cue to recall emotional memories. Music in a group setting can also create a shared connection between participants & promote:
•
 Team building or improving
   group cohesion in corporate or
   team settings

• Decreasing symptoms of
   depression or anxiety

• Establish a sense of belonging
• Create opportunities for positive
   emotional expression

Achieved through: lyric analysis, group drumming, song writing, music making within a therapeutic framework, intentionally compiled playlists to manage emotions.

    NEUROLOGIC                  WELLNESS

Music activates the right & left sides of the brain. When non-music tasks are paired with music engagement, the opportunity for new neuropathways to be established and old neuropathways to be rewired is created. This can:
• Improve general cognitive performance
• Improve memory

Achieved through: learning a new instrument, engaging in group singing, group drumming

     PHYSICAL
     WELLNESS

Our bodies naturally strive to be in sync with the environment around us. When our bodies respond to a rhythmic stimuli in a synchronous manner, this response is called entrainment. This response can be harnessed to facilitate change within our physiology, specifically in order to:
• Help with pain management

• Help with Stress management
• Improve physical performance
Achieved through: intentionally compiled playlists for exercise, group drumming, working with a music therapist playing live music to manage pain, live or curated music to manage heart rate, blood pressure, or respiratory rate
